Tips for gingerbread pages
- Use two browns from the same family: a light caramel for the cookie and a darker brown on the shadow side and along the edges. Add the darker one once the first coat is dry for a crisp edge.
- Leave the icing as bare white paper and color around it, stopping just inside the line. A touch of pale blue-gray on one side of each icing line makes it look piped.
- On candy canes, color the red stripes with light pressure and stay inside the lines; the white stripes stay bare.
- A Christmas bakery palette works well: cranberry, pine green, cream, gingerbread brown and soft gold. Use bright gumdrop colors as small accents and repeat each one 2 or 3 times across the page.
